Forty individual hospitals contributed 2,660 cases in this analysis. Because hospitals started using rFVIIa at different times over the study period, there were fewer participants at the beginning of the study. The study took place only nine months after the FDA approval of rFVIIa for the U.S. market.

INTRODUCTION Recombinant activated coagulation factor VII (rFVIIa) is a hemostatic agent developed by Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, Inc., under the trademark NovoSeven. It is a recombinant DNA preparation of a naturally occurring protease, activated blood coagulation factor VII. It is nearly identical to plasma-derived activated factor VII in its pharmacokinetics, structure, and function.
